About HSC, NAPLAN and coverage
“NSW rank” is the unofficial TopScores 2025 HSC Distinguished Achiever rank, updated 1 May 2026. It divides Band 6/E4 results by HSC course completions; only the top 200 receive a rank. It is one academic measure, not an overall school-quality score.
A missing rank is not a zero result. Cards distinguish schools outside the published Top 200, junior campuses with no HSC cohort, shared multi-campus results, new schools without a 2025 cohort, results not yet researched for this explorer, and unavailable data.
NAPLAN has no official NSW school rank. The latest school-level release is 2025, with 2023–25 progress where ACARA can match enough students. The official figures remain on My School; this explorer links to each school’s result instead of copying restricted data. Start with Year 7→9 progress, then view achievement relative to students with a similar background. Missing data can reflect cohort size, participation, campus year range or rolled reporting—not poor performance.
The 50 km catalogue contains 464 current secondary or combined campuses: 200 mainstream government schools from NSW Government data, plus 264 non-government campuses from the Australian Schools List. Distance-education, standalone intensive-English, environmental-education and special-school settings are outside this map’s public-school scope. Selective status comes from the NSW public-school dataset and refers to the official academic selective program.
“Selective” means the NSW public academic selective program. A private school shown as outside that program may still use its own enrolment criteria.
Private-school fees use the latest official school or system schedule available. Figures are annual domestic day-student amounts for the first or eldest child before sibling discounts. “Known total” adds published compulsory per-student and family charges where they can be calculated; application, enrolment, voluntary contributions and optional activities are excluded. Always confirm the payable amount with the school.
